The uniqueness of our cross-border life sciences conference BIOMEDICA has attracted the attention of the Ministers of Economic Affairs and Education, Culture and Science of the Netherlands, Ministers Maria van der Hoeven and Ronald Plasterk. On April 17 they will sign a Letter of Intent during the conference, concerning cross-border cooperation in the field of science and research, technology and innovation with NordRhine-Westfalia and Flanders. They have invited their colleagues from our neighbouring countries: Ministers Pinkwart and Thoben from NRW, and Minister Ceysens from Flanders. At Biomedica these ministers will also visit the exhibition floor to see companies and research institutes which have developed new technologies and new products through cross-border cooperations.
Highlights Biomedica2008 are in particular textile biomaterials for implantation, artificial organs, bio sensing for improved diagnosis, molecular and functional imaging, and particularly also advanced technologies in cancerology and immunology. These issues are of key importance in the main areas of Biomedica: biomaterials, molecular medicine and imaging, as well as medical technology.
Well-known large high-tech companies but also governments and life science organisations in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium will financially support this event. De Mayor of Maastricht will invite all participants to a reception at the town hall in the evening of 16 April 2008.
Representatives of business enterprises and R&D institutes can register for matchmaking during the conference. They can also inform the conference organisers about their participation in so called “elevator pitches” and present their businesses to venture capitalists.
